James Casey

hs_jamescasey_copy.jpgJAMES CASEY is an actor, musician and physical theatre performer, interested particularly in cross-disciplinary performance. He was introduced to Zen Zen Zo in 2008 through their Butoh classes, training since then in The Viewpoints, the Suzuki Method, and Meisner actor-training. In 2009 he undertook a Masterclass in Butoh, under the visiting members of Dairakudakan, and in 2010 he graduated Zen Zen Zo's Company Internship.

He has a strong interest in movement art, and in pursuing this has trained in the circus arts with CQ Circus and Circa, and in contemporary dance with Expressions Dance Company.

Until recently he sang as a tenor with The Australian Voices, in 2009 touring with the choir through Asia. This continues a vocal tradition begun at an early age, through performing in ensembles such as Con Brio and the Rockhampton Musical Union. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, favouring the piano (Grade 5 AMEB).

He has been involved in over forty productions in the past decade, in capacities ranging from General Chorus through Orchestra to Stage Manager & Lighting Technician. Notable stage credits include the roles of Daddy Brubeck in Sweet Charity (2002, Emmaus College), Wishee Washee in Aladdin (2002, Rockhampton Musical Union) and Lucius Andronicus in Titus Andronicus (2005, NASH Theatre). With Zen Zen Zo he has performed in Dante's Inferno (IN THE RAW Season, 2010) and Butoh piece The Storm: Menagerie of Innocence (Gabrielle New, 2010).
