Receiving more 5-star reviews than any other show
at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe, and shortlisted in the final seven for TOTAL
THEATRE AWARDS (Physical/Visual Theatre), ZEITGEIST is set
to repeat its success at the Adelaide Fringe.
ZEITGEIST is performed in Zen Zen Zo's infamous physical-theatre style
which fuses Butoh, Cabaret, Burlesque, Comedy, and Contemporary Dance. ZEITGEIST is
an award-winning collection of raw and provocative dance-theatre pieces that
reflect ‘the spirit' (GEIST) ‘of our times' (ZEIT). This explosive production
is an apocalyptic vision of our times presented through a maelstrom of 8 bared
bodies on stage.
"An edgy gender-bending
triumph" (Adelaide Advertiser)
"Two
questions: what took them so long to come to Edinburgh, and when are
they coming back?" (The Scotsman)
"The
audience greet them with rapturous applause. They have surely seen one of the
finest shows to come to the Fringe in years." (Hairline Reviews)
"Imperfectly
perfect theatrical dance by a world-class company" (Broadway Baby)
"Completely captivating" (The Scotsman)

My Sublime Shadow
is a new work that fuses the decadent, risqué German Weimar-era
Cabaret, with 1920s Burlesque and Butoh. This show combines the talents
of Zen Zen Zo performers with long-term collaborators,
singer/songwriters Emma Dean and Jacob Diefenbach.
The show
investigates the Jungian archetype of the Shadow, which represents our
darker sides, unacceptable impulses, chaotic wild selves, our demons,
our fears. The Shadow comes out to play in dreams, fantasies,
nightmares... Jung insists that the only path forward is to meet our
Shadows, to confront them, to "devour" them.
My Sublime Shadow
will be a night of cabaret and dance-theatre featuring both famous and
original songs sung by Emma Dean and Jacob Diefenbach, as they journey
inexorably towards meeting and "devouring" their shadows...
Dates: 28 August - 4 September, 2010
Times: Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sat 8.00pm
Fri 9.00pm
Venue: Old Museum Building, Bowen Hills
