Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre presents a visually, physically and aurally stunning adaptation of Shakespeare's last play, The Tempest. Directed by Zen Zen Zo Artistic Director Lynne Bradley, this poetic and provocative retelling of Shakespeare's classic features live music and a cast of 21 actors, dancers and singers. The Tempest is the latest in a long line of revitalized classics for Zen Zen Zo (Macbeth: As Told by the Weird Sisters, The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, Oedipus and Dracula). It comes fresh from a successful season in Hong Kong in 2008, and promises to "give delight and hurt not..."! Including guest artists, Emma Dean (singer/songwriter) and Bryan Nason (Grin & Tonic Theatre Company's Artistic Director Emeritus), The Tempest is set to be an amazing adventure for all audience memebers. They should expect the unexpected! The production will be presented in promenade theatre style - the audience will be led around the space throughout the show, becoming involved in the action - watch out for the water!

After opening on Saturday 27 June, The Tempest has already received multiple rave reviews. Check out what the critics had to say (plus some cool images from the show):
Director Lynne Bradley promises a show full of magic, music and humour, performed with some talented guest artists. "Zen
Zen Zo is excited to welcome Queensland theatre veteran Bryan Nason,
singing sensation Emma Dean, and singer/actor Alex Mikic from Hong Kong
to the company for The Tempest. The combination of talent is truly
inspiring!"
Guest artist Bryan Nason - founding member of Queensland based Grin and Tonic theatre group - has been performing Shakespeare for decades and brings a wealth of experience to the role of Prospero. Singer / song-writer Emma Dean, fresh from her recent East Coast tour, will be bringing her celebrated voice and unique performance style to the show in the role of Ariel. Variously described as "dynamic, epic, quirky and masterful" Emma Dean's musical incarnation of the airy spirit will be sure to delight old fans and convert many more. "One of my passions is experiencing the magical world where theatre and live music collide. Performing in The Tempest will, no doubt, be one of my most enchanting adventures to date."
The Tempest will be presented as part of Zen Zen Zo's IN THE RAW Studio Season, an annual event where the company returns to its experimental roots, creating exciting new work in non-traditional theatre spaces. Notorious for their innovative, shocking and visually striking performance style, Zen Zen Zo has captivated audiences for the past 17 years in countless sell-out seasons in Brisbane, Japan, Singapore and Hong-Kong. Past IN THE RAW Studio Seasons (Zeitgeist, Dracula, Sub-Con Warrior 1, and Those with Lucifer) have all sold out, and The Tempest looks to be no exception with tickets already in high demand.
