PHYSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS For Secondary Schools
For the 10th year, Zen Zen Zo brings its highly successful Breaking Boundaries workshop series to secondary schools throughout Australia. The seven 90-minute workshops provide an inspiring, practical approach to developing skills and knowledge in the area of physical theatre performance and creation.
The workshops, taught by a minimum of two Zen Zen Zo company members with national and international performance and teaching experience, are flexible and can be applied to a number of drama units.
Workshop Duration: 90 mins per workshop
Cost: $11 per student + gst (min 20 students - max 35)
A travel expense of $40 will apply to schools outside of the Brisbane Metropolitan area.

CORE Principles of Performance
A series of exciting and challenging exercises which help students master the Core Performance skills - Energy, Focus, Physical Awareness and Group Awareness. These principles are applicable to any performance style.

Physical Theatre Composition
Students practically explore several key Compositional Tools culminating in the creation of a short physical theatre piece.

OPEN WORKSHOP
The BB3 is an open workshop which can be catered towards the teachers
desired outcomes. Some popular topics are An Introduction to The
Viewpoints where the students learn one of the companys foundational
training methodologies, and Extended Composition which gives students the
opportunity to refine and extend their skills in creating a piece of
physical theatre.

Introduction to Butoh/ Japanese Theatre
This workshop looks at the amazing and expressive contemporary Japanese physical theatre style of Butoh. A powerful introduction to both Asian theatre styles and abstract/ expressive movement taught by one of the few Butoh companies in the country.

Introduction to the Suzuki Method of Actor Training.
This unique actor-training method concentrates on developing extraordinary energy, incredible focus and absolute commitment to performance allowing the actor to discover the elusive concept of stage presence.

Physicalising Shakespeare
The physical theatre style lends itself to the radical re-interpretation of Shakespearean performance as seen in Zen Zen Zo's productions of Macbeth: As Told by the Weird Sisters and Romeo & Juliet. This workshop will explore the interpretation of the language to create a heightened, more holistic performance of the Bard's work.

Physicalising Greek Theatre
Zen Zen Zo's success in interpreting Greek Theatre has been seen with their astounding productions of The Cult of Dionysus (The Bacchae), Ashes of Atreus (The Orestia), Oedipus, Medea and The Odyssey. This workshop will explore physical chorus, abstract and expressionist movement and stage composition to interpret the classic texts.
