Alys Hill, Director of ZenZenZo NZ, Associate Director of Zen Zen Zo, is a passionate and experienced practitioner in physical theatre. Working since 2008 with Australian company Zen Zen Zo, she is experienced in the methods of The Suzuki Method of Actor Training, Viewpoints, Butoh, Frantic Assembly and Lecoq. Holding a Bachelor of Education specialising in performing arts, she is a registered drama and dance teacher, also experienced in teaching theatre and dance extensively with diverse communities. Alys has performed and studied with founding Butoh company Dairakudakan, in Hakuba Japan(2017) and Brisbane Australia (2010) and trained with SITI company consistently throughout 2021. Alys is now based in Ōtautahi where she established the New Zealand arm of the company in 2018. She trains artists in Physical theatre in Aotearoa and overseas. She has taught at HCAC Haque Acting School in Singapore, LAF, NASDA and The Court Theatre Christchurch. She has directed and performed in multiple physical theatre shows through the company in NZ, Japan and Australia including; The Golden Dance (2018), River Styx (2018), Labyrinth (2020) and TOAST (2021).
