Kari Scott-Matthew
Kari Scott-Matthew (she/her) is a performer, educator and producer working across physical theatre, voice and interdisciplinary performance. Her practice is driven by a belief in live performance as a space for transformation, drawing on theatre, music and embodied training to create work that is both rigorous and accessible.
Kari’s early training includes Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed and voice studies with Diane Eden, Frankie Armstrong and Zygmunt Molik of Jerzy Grotowski’s Laboratory Theatre. This work informed her Master’s research in voice training and continues to underpin her approach to performance and facilitation.
She co-founded Cracka Theatre Company, developing and touring theatre-in-education programs to schools across Queensland, and was awarded the Australian Postgraduate Award for academic excellence. During her PhD studies, Kari undertook a two-year exchange in Singapore, where she immersed herself in the local theatre scene, performing on stage and screen.
Alongside her artistic practice, Kari has a background in project management and trains in Hapkido, Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She is a graduate of Zen Zen Zo’s Creative Entrepreneur Internship and now works with the company as General Manager. In 2024, she undertook an intensive with the Japanese Butoh company Dairakudakan, performing in Prayer in Summer.
Kari’s current work focuses on producing and curating multidisciplinary performance that brings together physical theatre, martial arts, movement, music and access-led practice, creating bold and engaging live experiences.
