Actor's Dojo Term 3: Butoh

Starts 13 JulyJudith Wright Arts Centre, Fortitude Valley

The Actor's Dojo

Mondays, 13 Jul - 31 Aug. THE ACTOR’S DOJO is home to actors, physical theatre performers, directors, dancers, teachers, musicians, performance poets, university & school students, and the occasional politician! It is an inclusive and supportive space that welcomes anyone who wants to challenge themselves, develop their creativity, engage in professional and personal transformation and growth. This term, Zen Zen Zo co-founder Dr. Lynne Bradley is teaching Butoh.  Butoh is a contemporary avant-garde dance-theatre form that originated in Japan. It has been described as a holistic dance of transformation, of complete presence, of universal archetypes and rich imagery expressed through the body (instead of through words). It combines dance, theatre, improvisation and ritual, drawing on many artistic traditions for its inspiration (Surrealism, Expressionism, Absurdism, to name a few). Butoh develops absolute presence, a deep physical awareness, a rich imagination, courage, and the ability to be highly expressive with the entire body. It cultivates both the emotional and imaginative life of the actor, dancer or physical theatre performer. The classes begin on Mon 13 July, 6-7.30pm at the Australian Dance Collective (ADC) Studio on the 4th floor of the Judith Wright Centre in the Valley. If you are paying the concession rate , please bring your concession card to the first class (or email a photo to lynne.zenzenzo@gmail.com). You'll receieve an email the week before classes start to confirm all the details. For more information contact lynne.zenzenzo@gmail.com
