Actor's Dojo Term 4: Devising

In progress28 Sept 2026 - 16 Nov 2026Judith Wright Arts Centre, Fortitude Valley

The Actor's Dojo

Mondays, 28 Sept - 16 Nov at the Australian Dance Collective (ADC) Studio, Judith Wright Centre. “To DEVISE is to begin without knowing exactly where you are going – and to trust that the act of making will reveal the way…” Training the actor’s body, imagination and voice is critical, but unless we apply our skills to the creation of art – and to engaging our audience - then our practice is only theoretical.  The DEVISING term in the Actor’s Dojo has been developed over Zen Zen Zo’s 30+ years of experience, and is designed to explore the knife-edge relationship between craft and chaos, structure and freedom. This is, in fact, the essence of the creative soul.  Across 8 weeks of classes we will explore a number of devising techniques, including Composition - Zen Zen Zo’s principal methodology for creating new work.  Progressing from embryonic ideas - to scenes - to sequences - to stories, the goal is to build your confidence and skills as a director/ writer/ creator / devisor of live performance. The term will culminate in an In-Studio performance, alongside the Zen Zen Zo company members, open to family & friends! If you are paying the concession rate, please bring your concession card to the first class (or email a photo to lynne.zenzenzo@gmail.com). You'll receieve an email the week before classes start to confirm all the details. For more information contact lynne.zenzenzo@gmail.com
